the main flavors in this salad are green chili peppers and black mission figs.  the shrimp are a subtle source of protein - having said that, you could replace it with any sort of protein that you would like.  i chose a pomegranate vinaigrette for this salad, but other good choices include citrus or other fruit based dressings - keep it light though, because this is a meal salad, not an appetizer.

gather together all of your ingredients.  taking a few minutes to do this will substantially reduce the time it takes to put together your meal, much better than reaching for each item as you need it.

i used mixed greens as the base here.  other good options would be spinach, arugula, or baby kale.  chop up all of the ingredients and assemble.
